Documentary Filming Winds Up
NASHI's President and Treasurer have just returned from a trip to Ukraine where they met with our partners and inspected the ongoing renovations at teh Safe House. The film crew and producer finished the final shots for the documnetary which is now in editing.

Perogy Paradise V
Another sold out crowd enjoyed Canada's largest perogy supper on March 13th. Victor Malarek was on hand to receive a lifetime NASHI membership. He brought a documentary film crew with him to record the event for an upcoming NASHI documentary.
Victor Malarek Headlines NASHI’s Human Trafficking Conference.
NASHI hosted the 2009 Human Trafficking Conference and Banquet in Saskatoon on October 17. A capacity crowd participated in presentations by the Saskatoon City Police and local social justice groups followed by round table discussions and action plans.
NASHI Volunteers Return From Ukraine
A group of volunteers from Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton travelled to Ukraine in June and July of 2009. They worked on the new safehouse renovations and spent a great deal of time meeting with our partners in Ukraine as wellas the people of the host town of Stoyaniv.

Progress on the Safe House Renovations
Work is oprogressing on the safe house in Stoyaniv. The new roof is almost complete and the interior cleaned of old tile,plaster, wiring and plumbing. New windows and doors as well as inside work will be progressing through the remainder of the year.

Another successful Bike-A-Thon
The gang at the Buena Vista Cycling Club pulled off their usual great event and raised a significant amount for NASHI and the Core Neighborhood Coop. See the Events page for more details.
Perogy Paradise IV
Canada's largest perogy supper was another great success on March 14th, 2009 with a capacity crowd of over 550 attendees. Click here for the photo gallery

Perogy Paradise III
Our popular annual perogy supper was held on March 15th with the largest turnout ever. Over 500 attendees consumed nearly 15,000 perogies along with ham, salads, several types of bread and a sundae dessert bar. Nearly all stayed to participate in the live and silent auctioning of over 200 items. The photo gallery from the event can be viewed here
Fall Fundraiser Supper was held on October 28th
The guest speaker was Fr. Bohdan Bilas of Lviv Ukraine who gave information on The Interfaith Committee of Lviv & the NASHI Safe House Project. He was amazed and thankfull for the support from people who were not from his country
The Klenovi Lyst (Maple Leaf) Project
NASHI President and co-founder Savelia Curniski spent three weeks in Ukraine, looking at possible sites for a Safe House and a new Trade School. She also made contact with like minded groups in Ukraine who would be involved in the operation and staffing of the new project. Two suitable sites were found in Stoyaniv, midway between Lviv and Lutsk. This large town has the needed infrastructure and opportunities for students as well as a willing population and support groups. See the projects page for more information.
NASHI Spins Off Trade School
The existing trade school has moved from Lviv to Ivano-Frankivsk and is now functioning as a self supporting entity. Over 50 girls are enrolled in the sewing classes and computer classes are offered every evening.
The Western Canadian Conference on Human Trafficking
BELLS OF HOPE CONFERENCE - Youth In Peril: The Realities of Human Trafficking
This was the first conference that NASHI has been involved with as co-host. All indications are that it was a tremendous success. Contacts were made with organizations across Saskatchewan and Canada. Keynote speaker Victor Malarek drove home the realities of Human Trafficking to all attending.
