NASHI's Current Projects
MAPLE LEAF CENTRE - "KLENOVI LYST"
The concept of "KLENOVI LYST" involves the establishment of an educational/living model project. It is an example of what each province of Ukraine should have, ideally with branches in various communities. The model is not utopian but practical. Picture a Ukrainian "Innovation Place" with living facilities and a strong emphasis on building social and economic life skills.
After NASHI members traveled to Ukraine in 2007 to observe conditions firsthand, a decision was made on the location for this project.
A former Kindergarten building and the land on which it sits was purchased in western Ukraine, in a medium sized village of approximately 7,000 persons.
Safehouse Building
Real Estate prices and construction costs have risen dramatically in
Ukraine as they have
here in Canada. By utilizing local workers and building supplies, our
contractors have managed to keep our costs within our budget.
Major renovations are nearly complete. So far the interior has been
gutted and completely rebuilt. The roof was raised to allow additional
living spaces, new windows and doors have been installed along with the
heating system and electrical wiring. Interior painting and flooring is
complete and we are beginning to add furnishings.
Regular funding is still required for operating costs. That is why
the Pre-authorized debit method giving is so important to NASHI.
Experienced, honest and willing partners for this center have been found in Ukraine. They will provide care for the residents and instruction at the trade school. The final construction budget for this project totals $450,000 CDN.
Now, we need to raise funds in order to provide for the operational and eduaction costs beginning in the summer of 2011.
The Maple Leaf Symbol
The maple tree is common to both Canada and Ukraine, but the maple leaf is recognized world-wide as a symbol of Canada. NASHI has chosen the maple leaf as the symbol for this project.
The foyer of the Safe House will prominently display a Maple Tree, whose coloured leaves will be adorned with the names of those who generously donated to this project.
All donations are greatly appreciated. Please visit our Contact page and fill out the online form.
